
Whitman is a Boston bedroom community, which was the home of the famous Toll House and the Toll House Cookie. A quiet and friendly community, Whitman has an outstanding youth organization that offers a variety of activities. It is located 21 miles south of Boston.
The town is proud of its recreation program. The Town features a historic Olmstead designed Park, featuring several monuments, has two baseball fields, a playground, an outdoor swimming pool, and also features a Turn-of-the-Century bandstand from which summer concerts are held.
Whitman hosts an annual Fourth of July Field Day at the park, with a road race, carriage or bike decorating, pie eating contests and other events. The town is primarily a South Shore residential community serviced by the Commuter Rail that has retained its rural character.
